Modern Warfare 4 launches without Tactical Sprint by default: it now lives on the Blood Rush perk
By TourneyTime ·
The short answer
Tactical Sprint is not on by default in Modern Warfare 4. Infinity Ward’s official launch patch notes keep the change it tested in the second beta weekend. Tac Sprint now comes only from the Blood Rush perk, which has been reworked to make up for it.
The game launches tomorrow, 23 October, and these changes go live with it.
What changes at launch
| Area | Launch behaviour |
|---|---|
| Tactical Sprint | Not available by default. The beta change has been kept |
| Blood Rush | Pressing sprint triggers Tactical Sprint automatically by default |
| Perk slot | Blood Rush sits in the second perk tier |
| Sprint-out penalty | The extra sprint-out penalty is removed for Blood Rush users |
| Default sprint input | Single tap run, so with Blood Rush you stay in Tac Sprint while your stamina lasts |
| Manual control | Double-tap and single-tap sprint options are still in the Movement Advanced Settings |
Activision’s Create-a-Class overview lists Blood Rush as a Perk 2 unlock at Player Level 4, so you don’t have to grind long to get it.
How we got here
Tac Sprint was on by default in the first beta weekend. For Weekend 2, Infinity Ward’s beta patch notes moved it onto Blood Rush and cut its sprint-to-fire penalty. At the time the studio called it an experiment, and MP1st reported that the perk’s place in the perk table was still undecided.
The launch notes settle it. The perk-gated version stays, and Blood Rush is now in Perk 2. Equipping it and pressing sprint puts you in Tac Sprint without the old double-tap.
What it means for your class
- If you play fast, Blood Rush is close to a must-pick now. Without it you can’t Tac Sprint at all.
- If you play slower, the perk slot is free for something else, and every player you meet without Blood Rush moves at the same base pace.
- Check your settings on day one. The default input is now single tap run. If you set up double-tap sprint in the beta, look in the Movement Advanced Settings before your first match.
One caveat: these are the pre-launch notes. Activision often pushes small changes around launch day, so we’ll update this page if the Blood Rush setup changes.
