The best Warzone loadout right now
Updated 8 November 2026, Modern Warfare 4 Season 1.
Run the Cronen Osprey for long range and the VEL 46 for close range. The Osprey is the number one long-range gun on every tracker we check. Close range is a two-way race between the VEL 46 and the ISO Nightshade. Snipers are still contested two days into the season.

Every recommendation here is a Modern Warfare 4 gun. Warzone moved onto MW4 when Season 1 went live on 6 November, and older guns now use fixed builds (more on that below).
Cronen Osprey: best long-range loadout
The Osprey is the new Season 1 assault rifle, unlocked at Battle Pass Tier 16. It’s the clearest pick in the game right now: codmunity puts it on about a fifth of all loadouts (7 November), and wzstats and wzhub both rank it first.

Every build we read runs the FSS IS300, IO-556 Tac 18” and 60 Round Mag, and all but wzstats add the FSS Fireline Grip. Optics vary: codmunity and wzstats use the Locus PX3 Canted, JGOD runs the Cronen R808 4X Scope (bestloadout), and GameRant the SZ SRE-7 (GameRant). wzstats swaps the grip for 5.56 NATO High Velocity ammo if you’d rather have bullet speed.

VEL 46: best close-range loadout
The VEL 46 unlocks at player level 13. codmunity has it as the most-used SMG, at about 19% of loadouts (7 November).

That’s codmunity’s build (code S03-3K9Y5-L7T46-8711). Creator Haydz runs the same muzzle, barrel and stock, but swaps the grip and ammo for an XRK Clutch-LS laser and LM Combat Grip (bestloadout). wzstats has a different build, but the EXP U-Turn Stock is in all three (codmunity, wzstats).
A note on the VEL 46’s range change. Its maximum damage range dropped slightly (10.13 m to 9.65 m) while its minimum damage went up. Sources disagree on whether that applies in Warzone as well as multiplayer, and it hasn’t knocked the gun off the top of codmunity’s list.
ISO Nightshade: the close-range alternative
wzstats ranks the ISO Nightshade first for close range, and wzhub rates it level with the VEL 46. The trouble is there’s no agreed build yet: codmunity’s and wzstats’ versions don’t share a single attachment.

If you want an easier SMG to control than the VEL 46, try both and keep the one that feels better. We’ll pick one once the builds settle (codmunity, wzstats).
M4: the long-range alternative
If you haven’t reached Battle Pass Tier 16 for the Osprey yet, the M4 is codmunity’s next long-range pick. wzstats ranks the Han 86 above it, and the Han 86 is available from the start, so try both. codmunity and wzstats print the same M4 build, so it may come from a single source.

Best sniper: still contested
Each tracker names a different sniper as number one. The KG-7 Vulcan is the most-picked on codmunity (about 9% of loadouts, 7 November), while wzstats has the Mosin-Nagant as its most-picked and ranks the KG-7 second. It unlocks at player level 4. codmunity and wzstats run the same build:

The other two contenders:
- Mosin-Nagant (a marksman rifle): wzstats’ number one. It aims much faster than the KG-7 (340 ms against 610 ms bare, on codmunity’s numbers). Build: Schlager 7x, FTAC Silent Recon, Mosin K025 Barrel, XRK Clutch-LS, 7.62x54mmR High Velocity (wzstats).
- Astaroth .57: wzhub rates it top, codmunity only C tier. Season 1 removed its knockdown, so we’d be wary of it.
Does it one-shot? Nobody has published a Warzone one-shot headshot range for any MW4 sniper yet. We won’t guess. Coming from the Strider 300? See what happened to it.
Best perks and equipment
There’s no perk usage data yet, so this is what the creator builds have in common:
- Surveyor is in most of them.
- Quick Fix or Survivor in the third slot. JGOD runs Surveyor, Deft Hands and Survivor on his Osprey. Haydz runs Surveyor, Mountaineer and Quick Fix on his VEL 46.
- Semtex and Stim are the most common equipment.
Ghost is gone from Warzone. Incognito is the closest loadout perk, and the Phantom Elite Perk is the fuller version you buy in-match. The three Elite Perks go in a new fourth slot, one at a time (Timesaver). The Season 1 notes price them at an upgraded Buy Station: Athleticism and Fieldcraft $8,000, Phantom $10,000 (our patch notes breakdown). Tempered now gets you full armour with two plates instead of three.
Are Black Ops 7 and older guns still good?
Not right now. Legacy weapons from Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6, MW3 and MW2 still work, but only as fixed preset builds. You unlock them in the Armory with player XP, you can’t edit them in Gunsmith, and old build codes don’t work. On wzstats, every A-tier gun is an MW4 weapon. The best legacy guns are all Black Ops 7 at B tier: the VOYAK KT-3, VMP, Strider 300, MK35 ISR, MPC-25 and DS20 Mirage (wzstats). The full rules are in our Carry Forward breakdown.
What changed in Season 1 that shapes the meta
- No Warzone weapon damage table. Raven’s Season 1 notes don’t list per-gun Warzone numbers, so the trackers are working from early match data.
- Gunplay got cleaner overall: higher bullet velocity, less flinch and screen shake, faster swaps and aim-down-sights movement.
- Tactical Sprint is standard, and the circles are faster: Resurgence circles are nearly 5.5 minutes shorter. Quicker rotations favour mid-range guns you can move with.
- Weapon Augments are new: Breacher, Sharpshooter and Gunslinger, $10,000 each from the Fly Buy drones (mobile Buy Stations) that arrive in Circle 3. One active at a time per gun.

How we pick these
We read the public Warzone trackers (codmunity, wzstats and wzhub) plus named creator builds, and only print a weapon as “best” when at least two independent sources agree. codmunity and wzhub publish identical builds, so we count them as one source. Pick rates come from codmunity and wzstats. Neither says how it measures them, and they disagree (wzstats has the Mosin-Nagant as the most-picked sniper), so we round them and say whose they are. This page is checked every week and whenever a Warzone patch changes weapons.
