Black Ops 2 gets backend update after PlayStation account hacks
By TourneyTime ·
What happened
Activision has released backend updates for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on PS4 and PS5 after reports of hackers manipulating player accounts in online lobbies.
The update is aimed at improving match security while Activision reviews accounts with incorrect Prestige levels, according to a Call of Duty Updates post quoted by Dexerto and DualShockers.
What players might see
Some players may briefly see an account ban notice after being removed from a match or session. Activision says that can be a byproduct of legacy systems used by older titles and does not automatically mean enforcement has been taken.
If the notice clears and the player can reconnect, Activision says the account has been processed successfully and no further action is required.
If the player cannot reconnect, Activision says the account may have been identified for enforcement based on evidence of intentionally obtaining unauthorised Prestige levels or other Terms of Service violations, including account manipulation.
Why it matters
Black Ops 2 recently returned on PlayStation with PS4 and PS5 ports, but reports around altered account levels, forced Prestige changes and hacked lobbies have made online matchmaking risky for some players.
For legitimate players, the practical advice is simple: if you are kicked and see a temporary notice, try reconnecting before assuming your account has been banned. Avoid knowingly joining hacked lobbies or accepting account manipulation, because Activision is reviewing incorrect Prestige data.
